Prior to making concepts of the tower defences, both by myself and Josh, I decided to enter Maya and create some prototype grey boxes of possible tower renditions, each keeping to the aesthetic of the child creation.
These designs and models are all based off the notion that either cardboard or toilet roll tubes have been used by the fictional child to create them.
With the tower built above, whilst it didn't make it into our Alpha build, we decided to keep the ladder made of toothpicks for future possible modelling and environment design. They would later come to be used as the base of the arrow fired from the towers.
The model above was based off one of our tower concepts and was evolved into the final tower design.

(02)
01 and 02 show the models we chose from to be our final tower (both in that there would be no more to build/upgrade to and the 3rd level of tower to be built). We decided on 02 to be the final one as we believed that in media consumed by the 'child' building the piece and their daily life, they were more likely to have seen a crown roof top for a tower such as these.

(Level 01)
From there is was simply a matter of bringing the final design down a few steps to represent the first and second levels of the towers when built and upgraded, respectively.
To make the final tower more striking in appearance, and basing off a child mentality of More = Better, we reused the models from the toothpick ladder previously to create a row spikes surrounding the tower, to defend from possible attackers.
Finally I built a simple X model which would represent the places the player would be able to build all their defences in the game, X marks the spot as the child would think.
