Photoshop Session 7 Dwarf Sketches

This session we were learning about proportions and how the average man in a drawing is the height of 6 heads, that is 6 heads in the size that you have drawn the head on your person to create the correct proportion. 7 - 8 heads is used for superhuman/heroic proportions of people and 4 - 5 heads are used for the proportions of dwarves in fantasy.
And that was our task this session, to design an Elf and a Dwarf through the use of these proportion scales.

The first 2 sketches I made on Photoshop did not turn out well.

This was the third I made and at first it was going well, however the size was not right and so I started again.

This time I drew the head, copied it and placed 5 on top of each other on the right as a proportion reference.

At the time of this final image it was nearing the end of the session and I wished to make him a little less barren and so I added some clothing to the design. However the sketch itself did not turn out as well as I wanted it to nor as well as I know I can do, and so for future reference I would try different perspectives to create my character and spend more time refining it.
